synopsis
Galala. A film by Ernesta Caviola for 5+1AA and Tatweer Misr. Tatweer Misr has found inspiration in the sky lit mountains of Portofino in Italy and how architectural sophistication and natural simplicity blend together in perfect harmony. It has carefully listened to the whispering of crashing waves, allowing the glistening of constellations to guide its vision all the way to the breathtaking cliffs of the Red Sea to transform IL Monte Galala into a waking Italian dream.
Building a dream made of stars and corals.
The short film directed by Ernesta Caviola and produced by The Piranesi Experience aims to narrate the magical and enigmatic beauty of the proposal by 5+1AA for the masterplan of the new town of Ain El Sokhna (Egypt), "a dream made of stars and corals" on the Red Sea.
After an International competition, in January 2015 the Italian firm was awarded by the Egyptian society Tatweer Misr for this important and strategical intervention in the stretch between Cairo and the Red Sea, fundamental for the future development of the industrial and road system between Cairo and the Suez Canal.
The authors of the short video interpret in a dreamlike way the architects’ vision of the project as a natural act of acceptance of the surrounding territory and its inner spirit. Their project is in no way a superimposed and artificial presence. Viewers are part of a sort of "The Arabian Nights" atmosphere. The photographer Caviola and the architect and video maker Esposito capture different moments of the architectural process and put them in direct confrontation with a virtual and yet accurate simulation of the built architecture. By means of a realistic combination of live footage frames and rendered models, the design becomes at the same time the protagonist and the backdrop of some mysterious adventures in the Egyptian nights, between the desert and the sea.
